Case study

Micro Tyco

The Deloitte team in Scotland first took part in a unique business competition called Micro-Tyco in November 2011. Since then, Micro-Tyco has grown to over 10,000 participants in over 1,000 teams, from schools to corporates, challenging teams to grow seed capital of just £1 into as much money as possible in just four weeks. The aim of the competition is to help participants discover and practice all the key skills necessary to start and run a business in a fun, stress free environment. Since taking part, Deloitte have won the challenge two years running, making £19,000 in 2011 and then £52,000 in 2012.

Micro Tyco is run by Wildhearts, a Deloitte Social Innovation Pioneer in 2012/13, which is committed to launching companies that serve humanity. An initial investment of 1,900 £1 loans has now generated more than £500,000 in return and all the monies raised are invested by WildHearts in micro-loans to help female entrepreneurs in impoverished countries succeed in business and create wealth and employment in their local community.
