Military Transition Programme

Ian Preece had been serving in the Military for ten years, mostly with the Royal Marines, and had completed tours in Iraq and Afghanistan when he thought about a change in career. During his time in the Military, he had acquired many skills relevant to the business world – leadership, communication, analytical and problem solving skills – but was unclear on how he could make the transition into a new professional role.

It was at this time that Ian saw an ad for a Deloitte Insight Day on the Officers’ Association website and came along to the first event in November 2012. Throughout the event Ian met people he had served alongside in Afghanistan, now working at Deloitte, and they were able to offer practical advice about Ian’s transition. A couple of months after attending the Insight day, Ian had successfully completed the selection process and was offered a position; he has now been working within Consulting since 8 April, 2013.

He comments that the reason he decided to join was because he could see he would be working with talented people; an important consideration when you have worked in the Military. He also recognised that Deloitte was interested in making him a more valuable and skilled person and helping him progress in his career.

Ian said,

“I was impressed with the rigour of the recruitment process for Deloitte, which has real parallels with the process for being a Military officer, albeit without the physical exertion! Overall, my transition into Deloitte has been a positive experience, the support I have received from all levels within the organisation has been excellent and I am delighted with my decision to join Deloitte.”
