Here East: Olympic legacy

Set within 1.2 million square feet of commercial space inside London's Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Here East is home to the most advanced digital infrastructure in Europe. Here East’s developer, Innovation City (London) Ltd, was selected by the London Legacy Development Corporation to transform the former press and broadcast centres, used during the London 2012 Olympic Games, into a creative and digital hub.

Deloitte’s Real Estate team helped secure planning permission for Here East in February 2014, and has advised the group throughout the lifetime of the project. We helped create a new development that exploits the technological capabilities of the site as a major broadcast hub (scale, power, digital connectivity) to create a home for global companies alongside east London’s most innovative start-ups.

We have advised Here East from the initial competition to acquire the buildings. Since then, we have been acting as leasing agent for the project, using our relationships and connections in the tech and creative sectors to attract tenants to the development. The project is now 50 percent pre-let to tenants including BT Sport, Loughborough University and Space Studios.

The project will meet the requirements of the London Legacy Development Corporation’s agenda to provide wide-ranging local economic benefits from the Olympic Games and strong links with the neighbouring communities. Here East hopes to create over 7,500 jobs, including 5,300 directly on-site and a further 2,200 in the local community through new business generation and the impact of using local supply chains.

Gavin Poole, CEO of Innovation City commented:

“Deloitte has played a major role in the delivery of Here East and in our vision of establishing a long-term economic legacy to the 2012 Games. Deloitte’s roles have reflected the firm’s diverse business capability, such as providing financial modelling support to our original bid, obtaining planning permission and leasing the buildings.”
