Tech Culture Club

What's the proposition?

A tech fluency roadshow bringing together C-suite with C-suite, facilitated by the tech community. Designed to give the C-suite a real understanding of what enables tech, failures, and method for success; and thereby make tech fluency an explicit priority for business leaders.

How will you drive adoption?

A peer network with boards meeting face-to-face, supplemented by online resources on YouTube, Ted talks to engage the wider community. We’ll start small and build the network. Businesses will bring their best and worst tech stories to bring realism and grit to a process that often has too much theatre attached to it.

What’s the bold first step?

First trial roadshow within 6 months - with two boards sharing their respective technology journeys.

SME Thoroughbreds

What's the proposition?

The UK needs to invest in a world-class digital infrastructure and there’s an opportunity to transform the digital capability of the UK’s fastest growing SMEs, boosting productivity. By using open data, we could target infrastructure investment in high speed fibre networks to match supply to opportunity.

How will you drive adoption?

Using local coordinated groups (e.g. LEPs, City mayors etc) and building communities, e.g. Industry associations, schools and universities.

What’s the bold first step?

Establish data sources – and work with Government to understand how best to access and analyse this data.

Digital Passport

What's the proposition?

We need to embed tech in all aspects of learning, because it’s not just tech careers that require you to be tech savvy.

Short term, a group of large businesses would create a “digital passport” for students that aims to log the business relevant digital skills that young people have developed, to encourage their development and increase the understanding of how tech fluency is relevant to all future careers. Longer term, the team would look to embed digital and technology elements in subjects outside of Computer science in the national curriculum itself.

How will you drive adoption?

Businesses to provide content, refresh and keep it relevant. Use existing business links with schools.

What are the bold first steps?

We would initially cherry pick four subjects or careers to review. Review the technology platform that would be required. Consider how we might practically roll out this initiative.

What's the proposition?

There’s a gap between what’s happening in (lifelong) learning and what’s needed to thrive in a digital economy. We need a shared, open-source platform for businesses and talent to foster mentoring and knowledge sharing across generations and socio-economic divides.

How will you drive adoption?

We will recruit a corporate employee base and distribute to Careers Leaders in schools.

What’s the bold first step?

Establish partnership host and community; secure budget for pilot and test with corporates, SMEs and national charities.

Tech Fluency University

What's the proposition?

Businesses from across industry open up their learning resources to anyone. Providing access for all to a broader range of high-quality L&D. It reduces strain on businesses to create L&D, avoids duplication and allows them to understand the effectiveness of their training and readiness of their future workforce.

How will you drive adoption?

Create a central platform that is easy to engage with (or partner with an existing platform). Promote via our existing customer bases and channels (social media/YouTube etc).

What’s the bold first step?

Identify a few organisations willing to take part. Investigate existing industry collaboration tools.
