Shared Services 2023 pre-conference day highlights

We had a blast at our pre-conference day, with our immersive labs fostering learning and ideation through interactive learning sessions.

Our popular pre-conference day is packed with a series of lab sessions that explore key themes and trends relevant for GBS leaders. The labs will take place on Tuesday 26th September 2023.

09:30 & 13:30 Labs

Labs will foster learning and ideation through facilitated knowledge sharing sessions, with fellow industry leaders and Deloitte experts from numerous geographies.

Given the popularity and interactive nature of these labs, attendance will be limited to two sessions per individual, per organisation, whereby each delegate will be able to attend one out of the four labs in the morning and another in the afternoon, each lasting 3 hours.

This year, the pre-conference labs will cover the following topics:

GBS Brand Lab: How might GBS organisations build a more compelling brand, to help drive organisation-wide buy-in and be considered a true transformation partner?

As one of the themes for this year’s conference 'Building your Brand' is key to unlocking GBS success. At its core, GBS is a service that needs to market itself, communicate its mission, influence its users, and capture their confidence. Establishing a service-oriented brand that speaks to the customers has the power to positively impact the perception of GBS within the enterprise. In this lab, we will look to engage on the following:

  1. Defining the GBS Purpose and Demonstrating Relevance - how to build a clear link between the enterprise strategy, with vision and ambition for GBS.
  2. Building the Foundations of Brand Identity - how to build a brand narrative, through storytelling and develop a compelling vision and mission statement that articulates the GBS value case.
  3. Bringing the Brand to Life - drive buy-in across the organisation through tangible outputs and engagement, giving GBS the visibility and focus it deserves.
  4. Improving Experience - driving a more consistent and impactful experience for employees and customers which is aligned to the strategic intent of the organisation.

Centre Office Lab: What is the value proposition of building a Centre Office model vs. functional shared services and how do I sell it to my business stakeholders?

As GBS maturity evolves across industries and organisations, more and more GBS leaders are looking to augment their impact on the business strategy. From a Deloitte perspective, we believe the Centre Office model is the right approach and based on concrete client examples, we wish to share with our participants that next level of detail to help each one of you take the next steps towards a more value-adding GBS organisation. In this session, we will:

  1. Share the key benefits of a Centre Office model
  2. Support you to shortlist the key enablers that will help you realise this ambition and get the value
  3. Guide you on effective ways in which to define and communicate the benefits for the organisation and ultimately align on the role of GBS in driving business performance

Data Analytics Lab: How can you use the data from your operational processes effectively to turbo-charge productivity across your enterprise?

As productivity continues to be a core focus for GBS Leaders, we aim to share with them success stories and tried and tested use cases for how productivity can be achieved in a data led way using market leading technology.

We will help you address operational demands such as:

  1. How to make use of the abundant data from your operational processes to bring about efficiencies both within GBS and across the wider business
  2. How to monitor processes in the most efficient, data led and user friendly way, ensuring time is spent on actions rather than insight generation
  3. How can technology support your teams to actively monitor KPIs and drive the results you desire

ESG Lab: How can you leverage your GBS organisation to drive the ESG transformation across your enterprise?

The general pressure on companies to increase their commitment towards ESG also affects companies’ GBS organisations as

  • the requirement to meet ESG requirements also includes GBS’ activities
  • GBS is often the "home" of processes that have a direct impact on ensuring and protecting ESG aspects (e.g., procurement, supply chain)
  • by being positioned at the center of an organisation, GBS organisations have unique opportunities to create transparency around ESG reporting

We will help you form a better understanding of which aspects are required to shape this and provide lessons learned from running transformations, such as:

  1. Operating model considerations (e.g. strategy & mandate, organisation, governance)
  2. Enablers (e.g. talent, processes & technology, network & ecosystem)

ServiceNow Lab: How does unified service delivery and automation drive shared services transformation?

In a climate of business complexity and tightening budgets, shared services and Global Business Services leaders are re-imagining service delivery to drive down cost and improve experiences for internal and external stakeholders alike. A strong digital foundation creates the opportunity to connect departmental silos and deliver improved efficiency, quality, speed and satisfaction.

In this lab, participants will have an inside look at how an intelligent platform for digital business leads to opportunities to say ‘yes’ to the decisions that both reduce cost and drive growth, instead of choosing between competing priorities. Learn how shared services organisations can leverage the ServiceNow platform to deliver simplified experiences, enable purposeful automation, and provide organizational agility.

Public Sector Lab: How can GBS enable the Public Sector’s journey to the cloud and create enduring value?

Public sector organisations are facing exponential challenges as a result of Geopolitical environment, the resulting economic and budgetary pressures and the impact of these in the provision of public services to the citizens. Additionally, many Public Sector organisations have a legacy technology stack that is approaching its end of life and will need to be replaced in the next 5-10 years as providers withdraw support of legacy platforms. User centricity has often not been a consideration in the design and delivery of services, ultimately impacting the services delivered to the public. Overall Public Sector organisations have lagged significantly behind Private sector in leveraging GBS and Centre office model to create efficient and effective back and middle office.

Deloitte’s point of view is that GBS in Public Sector can accelerate front end service transformation by path clearing and creating the right foundation to enable change. This topic is very closely aligned to the over-arching theme for this year’s conference “imagine, Innovate, Impact”. In this session we will explore the following topics, leveraging decades of learnings from the private sector to help Public Sector organisations leapfrog their transformation:

  1. How the GBS Centre Office model can benefit your organisation to address current pressures, improve user experience and effectively enable the delivery of services to the public?
  2. What role GBS can play in enabling ERP Cloud implementation in Public Sector organisations and what foundations can be built prior to an ERP implementation?
  3. What are the key challenges your organisation may face in implementing a GBS organisation and what are the factors that can help mitigate these challenges?
