Clare Cunningham: GB Paratriathlete and manager at Deloitte

Clare has been with Deloitte for more than seven years, throughout which she has also pursued an elite sporting career. As a former Paralympic swimmer, she switched to triathlon in 2009 and currently works flexibly to accommodate her training and competition schedule. She works three days a week and trains intensively on the two alternate days. As part of the Deloitte’s Elite Athlete Programme, Clare is also allocated some additional leave in order to attend international competitions.

To help her balance her work and sporting commitments, Clare has been able to move from a client-facing role to an internal position. She says the partners she works with have been extremely supportive of her situation, with everyone recognising that the demands of a client-facing role would be very difficult to manage. Clare also gets involved in ad hoc projects, which currently involve Deloitte’s partnership with British Universities and Colleges Sport and its Elite Athlete Programme.
