Alzheimer’s Society: Raising awareness, planning for the future

We are proud to have helped Alzheimer’s Society reach its target of one million Dementia Friends in England less than two years after the launch of the initiative. The Dementia Friends programme is the biggest ever initiative to change society’s perceptions of dementia and was launched to raise awareness of the condition — encouraging individuals, communities and organisations to learn more about dementia and making sure people with dementia are understood and included. Deloitte staff signed up to become Dementia Friends throughout the year, including our chief executive David Sproul and the executive board.

Our partnership with Alzheimer’s Society has had greatest impact when we have used our range of skills to provide pro bono support. We have delivered a number of initiatives including co-authoring a call to action paper for the new government as a follow up to its National Dementia Strategy and helping develop the charity’s next five-year strategy. Another key part of the relationship — raising awareness of Alzheimer’s Society throughout Deloitte — was achieved through a series of campaigns and fundraising activities including screenings of the film Still Alice, promoting Dementia Awareness Week and sponsoring the Royal Parks half marathon.

“Since Deloitte chose Alzheimer’s Society as one of its charities for 2013—2016, we are delighted to have made significant progress on a number of fronts. From innovative fundraising ideas to consultancy support and raising awareness of dementia, Deloitte has comprehensively supported our strategic ambitions. Deloitte has delivered a number of pro-bono projects for Alzheimer’s Society, including our digital strategy, a property review and the development of our organisational strategy for the next five years — keeping dementia high on the nation’s agenda. The support and expertise of Deloitte through these projects has made a huge transformative impact on the charity. We are very much looking forward to the coming year and continuing to ensure people living with dementia are living a fulfilled life with support and services of the highest standard.”
