Deloitte Access: Inspiring ambition

The Deloitte Leeds office has worked with Tong High School in Bradford for the past two years as part of the Deloitte Access programme. This is an education initiative delivered in collaboration with Teach First, designed to raise aspiration, support achievement and provide opportunities for students in low-income communities.

Students at Tong High School have benefited from employability conferences, mentoring, debating, coaching, and practice interviews, as well as the development of a bespoke module for the whole of the school’s Year 12. With support from volunteer coaches, Tong has twice been crowned International Schools Champions in the Micro-Tyco entrepreneurial challenge. Micro-Tyco is a month-long challenge run by WildHearts, one of the Deloitte Super Pioneers, in which teams are given £1 and one month to generate as much money from their pound as possible, with the funds being reinvested by WildHearts through microloans to entrepreneurs in developing countries. Deloitte has also provided pro bono support to help Tong sharpen future sustainability by focusing on the school’s business plan and future financial planning – addressing strategic issues around succession planning and financial modelling.

Stephen Curran, Head Teacher of Tong High School describes the relationship with Deloitte Leeds as:

“By far the strongest and most exciting partnership I have been involved in, providing the opportunity to innovate and drive social change.”
