TMT Predictions Schools Challenge 2015

In March 2015, Deloitte’s Technology, Media & Telecoms (TMT) practice held the second TMT Predictions Schools Challenge — an initiative created in response to the lack of young people in the UK with the appropriate skills and interest to ‘plug the skills gap' in the sector. This year the Dragon’s Den style challenge went national, and seven Deloitte Access schools from across the UK entered our competition to pitch their entrepreneurial and innovative business ideas in line with a brief we had set them, mentored by specialists from Deloitte’s TMT practice to a panel of industry experts.

Teams from Parliament Hill, MK Academy, Cardinal Hume and Hazelwood College made it through to the final at our London offices, where they visited a marketplace of innovative and disruptive tech start-ups to learn more about products, services and careers in the sector. They also had the chance to talk to representatives from our own student recruitment team and Deloitte Digital practice. The finalists then presented their ideas to an audience of 80 Deloitte practitioners, partners, clients and guests, as well as a judging panel of business leaders from The Guardian, Virgin Media, Sony, Cisco and our own Head of TMT Insights.

Cardinal Hume was crowned the winner with its innovative idea for a wearable smartphone for the health and fitness market. The students were then whisked off for a surprise trip to the top of the Shard to make it a memorable first trip to the capital for many of them.
