Responding to a crisis: the Deloitte solution

When disasters strike Save the Children International must be ready to rapidly transform its operations from every-day activities to a large-scale emergency response. SCI turned to Deloitte to help define and plan for how the organisation could scale up and scale down local operations during a crisis. We were able to develop a decision-making framework based on the principles of good governance to define the structure, roles and responsibilities for making strategic humanitarian response decisions, helping SCI to deliver more efficient and effective operations. The Deloitte Humanitarian Innovation Program is centred on a proactive approach to dealing with humanitarian disasters, promoting innovation and collaboration between the private and public sectors. We are sharing the outcomes of projects conducted under the Program with the wider humanitarian sector in order that other organisations can benefit from our work.

“The resulting findings have provided us with a deep analysis of the way we operate, and a framework for how we can strengthen our model in the future.”

David Wightwick, Deputy Humanitarian Director (Operations) at SCI
