Vi-Ability: tackling social issues head on

Part of the buzz of our Social Innovation Pioneers programme is the impact we can have on businesses with a real passion for making a difference in society. Vi-Ability, founded four years ago by former international footballer Kelly Davies, is one such business. At the heart of the group is its mission “for every community to have a thriving and financially stable football club at its heart – providing opportunities for individuals to develop their skills and broaden their horizons.”

Kelly wanted to build a social enterprise that would train and educate more people in running commercially sustainable football clubs, specifically designed to target individuals from less advantaged backgrounds, in order to tackle economic inactivity and youth disengagement in education. As a Social Innovation Pioneer, Kelly was able to benefit from the insight and expertise of Deloitte’s Sports Business Group, which advised her on developing a 12-month growth plan for the business. Now, with Deloitte’s support, Vi-Ability has been introduced to the Premier League. It’s running a pilot scheme with Swansea City FC in order to build case studies that demonstrate the impact of the programmes on local communities, and their potential for other Premier League clubs.
